WHAT IS READY TO RENT ?
A 6 week tenant readiness education class where YOU work closely with housing specialists and peers to:
Accept responsibility for past rental issues Repair credit Create a workable budget Develop a housing search plan Understand the application and rental process Maintain appropriate housekeeping Communicate effective with landlords Earn a Ready to Rent(c) Certificate of Completion that can be presented to landlords.

What Does Ready to Rent(c) Cost? The cost is $15 to each household.
Does Ready to Rent(c) Help Pay Your Rent? No
Does Ready to Rent(c) Help Pay Deposits? No
I have a criminal record; can Ready to Rent(c) Help? Yes and No. Some landlords will be more likely to accept you as a tenant after completing the class. Ready to Rent(c) does not erase your criminal history. It helps if you have a job or a steady source of income. It also helps if you get letters of support form your parole or probation officer or others.
But I'm Homeless Right Now, Can Ready to Rent(c) Help? No. Ready to Rent(c) does not offer emergency housing help. It takes six weeks to complete a Ready to Rent(c) class. If you are in need of immediate housing services, call 211 Resource and Referral.
What steps should I follow to enroll in a class? *Read the Class Schedule. *Call 860-296-1797 to register for the class or to ask general questions about Ready to Rent(c). Once the class begins, more specific questions can be answered. If the class is full, you may be placed on a waiting list. * If you cannot speak to the contact person right away, please leave a message with a phone number. * Write notes about whom you called and what they said. * Pre-screen yourself by ordering your credit, criminal history and public records report. You are entitled to one free credit report per year. To order your report log on to www.annualcreditreport.com or call 877-322-8228. To obtain a copy of your criminal history, go to your local police department or visit the State of Connecticut Department of Public Safety Website and download the required form http://www.state.ct.us/dps/SPBI.htm (Reports and Records.) Complete the form and mail it along with $25 to: State Police Bureau of Identification, P.O. Box 2794, Middletown, CT 06457-9294. To obtain a copy of your eviction record visit your local housing court in Hartford (80 Washington Street, 06106) or New Britain (20 Franklin Square, Room 211, 06051) or go online to http://www.jud.state.ct.us/housing.htm. Note: Online case records are only available from the Hartford, New Haven (121 Elm Street, 06510), New Britain, Bridgeport (1061 Main Street, 06604), Norwalk (17 Belden Avenue, 06850) and Waterbury (300 Grand Street, 06702) districts.
