Anvil Commercial Space

Anvil commercial space

7,000 square feet of historic multi-use space Available

Anvil Place is a seven-story masonry building, built in 1927 to house the Commercial Trust Company and then New Britain National Bank until the mid-1990’s when it became mostly vacant and blighted.

Stepping in for another developer who could not complete the project, Mutual Housing Association of Greater Hartford, Inc. (MHAGH) completed the construction of the 28 senior affordable housing units on the upper floors in 2011 but did not have funds for the commercial space. While the commercial space has heat and electricity it has no plumbing or bathrooms.

We envision a flexible multi-use venue that can serve the community and local businesses. Incubator space? Party venue? The options are endless.

Survey: Vote for the space you want!

The Anvil Place Commercial Space is vacant at 51 West Main Street in New Britain. We want to turn it into a space local residents and businesses want to use and visit in Downtown New Britain.

We are currently working to secure funding to add bathrooms and a kitchen to the Anvil Place Commercial Space (as well as other improvements) so that it can be functional for various uses and your responses will help us understand what uses are most desired (ex: event space, co-working space, theater space).

We want Anvil Place Commercial Space to improve the quality of life for residents, workers and visitors!
